April EXTRAordinary Workers Finalists
Justin grew up disabled with severe scoliosis. A number of years ago he had a surgery to instal a rod in his spine to straighten his back. He now runs marathons and works at Red Robin as a way to fund running marathons for charity all over the country. He typically will take any shift offered to him, but is currently laid off. Everyone at his work loves him and work is really his social life. Justin lives alone in a small apartment in a building for folks with disabilities. His uncle has told me that he doesn't have to work - his disability payments are reduced by what he earns, but he chooses to work.
Nurse Practitioner, VA
Mary is an ER Nurse Practitioner at MCV and Nurse Practitioner for Va Center for Addiction Medicine.
She puts her patients well being above her own health and safety 100% of the time. She works overtime to fill uncovered shifts at the hospital especially with the current state of COVID-19 so those with families at home don’t have to put themselves at risk. She makes shifts fun for co-workers and brightens every room she walks in. Somehow Mary still find the time to put her family and friends first. She always goes above and beyond for her loved ones, but she has taken it to another level during COVID-19 by checking in on everyone regularly and even getting homemade masks and cookies to her friends.
Bar Lead, VA
Stephen with a "PH" goes above and beyond to make customers feel welcome and a part of the Tazza family and he makes a mean bloody mary with a smile on his face. Remember that show Cheers? Stephen makes me feel like Norm. We walk in, he gives us a big ole wave from behind the bar, asks what we have been up to, if he has time he greets us with a hug and makes all over how cute our kids are. When Tazza catered our wedding, our first question was if Stephen was available and if he could work it - he did! He was one of the first people to know we were expecting our first baby. While we were still hiding the news from friends, he came up with a code drink for me to order so he knew the drink needed to be made without alcohol. He is always behind the bar, or picking up tables if needed. He is ALWAYS doing more than his part. We get pumped to see him whenever we go to Tazza... even if it's just a quick wave hello!
About the Campaign
goHappy Hub! is thrilled to officially kick off The goHappy EXTRAordinary Workers Campaign in order to recognize the amazing work that frontline workers are doing every day through which we will be giving away over $20,000 in 2020 to these incredibly deserving individuals.
We want to celebrate people who are doing what most people would describe as “ordinary” jobs. But, they are being done in an extraordinary way. By extraordinary people. They are EXTRAordinary Workers.
And, we think there are thousands of them out there. But, their stories don’t get told. They don’t get the limelight in the Wall Street Journal. Or Forbes. Or CNN. Or even in their local paper. But, we think they’re worth telling. Actually, they’re definitely worth telling. And, they are worth celebrating for sure.
So, we’re going to do our small part of telling these stories and celebrating these people by officially kicking off our EXTRAordinary Workers and highlighting one person’s story each month and giving that person $1,000. And, at the end of the year, we will select one of those monthly winners as The goHappy 2020 EXTRAordinary Worker of the Year with a Grand Prize of $10,000.
But, we need your help to do it! At goHappy, we are constantly on the lookout for these EXTRAordinary Workers but we want submissions from you. Who do you know who is doing an “ordinary” hourly job, but does it in an EXTRAordinary way? Someone who works at a place where you shop or eat? Someone you work with? Someone who works at your company?
Just complete the nomination form by answering a few quick questions about the person (takes less than 3 minutes) so they have a chance for us to tell their story and give them $1,000.
Thanks for helping us highlight and celebrate these EXTRAordinary Workers!
What is the EXTRAordinary Workers Campaign?
goHappy Hub! created the EXTRAordinary Workers Campaign as a way to highlight amazing hourly workers all across the country by telling their stories and awarding selected individuals each month with $1,000.
How are Entrants identified?
We need your help in identifying Entrants! If there is an hourly worker you know who you see consistently doing extraordinary work, we’d love for you to nominate them here!
How and Who can submit an Entrant?
Anyone can submit an Entrant! Whether they work at your company, they are a co-worker or you are a customer of theirs. We’re just looking for extraordinary workers!
What is the criteria used to determine winners?
We’re looking for 3 basic things: 1) They do great work regardless of who is watching. 2) They do that consistently. 3) Their attitude and work ethic is an inspiration to the other people on the team.
goHappy Hub! will select 3 finalists each month, and then we will ask the public to vote on the top 3 for the month’s EXTRAordinary Worker via this page. So, make sure your friends and family are following us on social media to know when voting opens!
How frequently are winners selected?
Winners will be selected monthly.
What do you win?
There will be 3 finalists each month. The two runners up will win $100 each and the Winner will win $1,000. And, goHappy Hub! will select one of the monthly Winners to be its Annual Winner who will be awarded $10,000.
Who is goHappy Hub! and why are they doing this?
goHappy Hub! is a platform that helps organizations communicate and engage with their hourly workforce so they feel more connected to, valued by and engaged with their organization. We created this Campaign so that we can celebrate amazing frontline workers all across the country and the critical role they play in organizations, our economy and society.
